Switches perform central tasks in networks and enable smart communication with all Ethernet participants within a network. As intelligent infrastructure components, they read incoming data and forward it to the port with the corresponding receiver. Murrelektronik offers a solution for various situations.
The combination of Ethernet-based automation solutions and flexible and expandable network structures is possible with modern network components. Murrelektronik's IP20 Managed Switches such as the Xelity IP20 allow Ethernet devices to communicate with each other via network connections. "They give the network the ability to set up different topologies, such as a star or tree," explains Kalif Kock, System Manager IO & IoT at Murrelektronik. "In addition, the switches can perform other tasks, including fault analysis or network diagnostics. They optimize data transfer and provide network control via remote access."
The ProfiNet connection in the switch and the integration of the configuration tool (TIA Portal via a GSDML file) provide simplified installation. "The switch is equipped with the latest Gigabit technology. The user's network is therefore ready for the future increase in data volumes." IP20 Managed Switches are available with or without ProfiNet, the open industrial Ethernet standard for automation. ProfiNet uses TCP/IP and IT standards and enables the integration of fieldbus systems.
In addition to the IP20 Managed Switches, the automation specialist offers Unmanaged switches. "Our Xelity IP20 Unmanaged Gigabit switches are the workhorses for data in networks. The basic functions are well covered. They connect network devices and forward data in the form of packets. In the process, they excel with gigabit data transfer rates."
Unmanaged Gigabit Switches are designed so that they can also be used in small control cabinets. Typical features include a robust plastic housing, a narrow design with a height of less than 150 millimeters and DIN rail mounting.
The choice of a switch also depends on the specific application and desired design. "To better serve customers, we also have particularly compact switches of the Xenterra series in our portfolio. Their distinguishing feature is the flat and robust design. Xenterra is available in variants with 5, 8 or 16 ports. This means that - depending on the number of slots required - the switch that is most suitable for the application can be selected. The switches can be mounted on a DIN rail, but they can also be mounted directly on a wall. This plays an important role in various applications where only a small amount of space is available. Think of applications in control cabinets with limited depth, AGVs (automated guided vehicles) and Panel PCs."
Xelity and Xenterra switches are produced at our headquarters in Oppenweiler. "In-house production ensures that we can offer a high-quality product. In fact, we strive for a zero-defect strategy in all areas of production. We continuously invest in machinery, systems and quality control to further develop and improve our technical processes. By integrating suppliers, robust processes and implementing process optimization measures, we create technologically advanced products that our customers value."
