Safe Operation - Safety PLC - Safety controller_ReeR Mosaic

A safety relay or safety PLC plays an important role within a safety system. Potential hazards of machines or plants must be safely managed and monitored. Safety switches monitor the status of safety devices. Upon the detection of an unsafe situation by a safety switch, it will send a signal to the safety relay (safety PLC) after which the safety relay sends a signal after which the energy to the potentially dangerous machine/machine movement is shut off or which safely interrupts the safety circuit.

Safety PLC functions

A safety PLC can manage one or more safety switches, such as light curtains, photocells, emergency stops, laser scanners, electromechanical switches, magnetic switches, interlocking safety door switches, RFID switches, safety mats and so on. A safety relay has two functions; first, to process the signals from connected safety switches and components and second, to safely and reliably interrupt or disable potentially dangerous machine (functions).

Software (MSD) - Safety PLC

ReeR Safety's Mosaic safety PLC is easy to program with the free included software. The software works by drag and drop. All the different components can be dragged and dropped.

Project reporting and log files

The main ReeR Mosaic M1 module features a USB connector that allows you to connect the main module to your PC via a USB cable. The software allows you to validate the software design in the form of a simulation and project report. The project report includes the project name, configuration, safety information (PFHd, MTTFd, DCavg) and the modules, resources and components used. The software generates a log file with the date when the project was created with the related checksum (CRC 4-digit hexadecimal identifier) which is stored in the Mosaic M1 module.

Mosaic Configuration Memory

Should it be a standard or mostly standard security system, the 'Mosaic Configuration Memory' is a time-saving solution. A previously programmed safety system is easily transferred to another ReeR Mosaic M1 module using a memory card.

ATEX certified safety PLCs

For applications in explosive environments, the Mosaic series has been expanded to include ATEX-certified safety PLCs. The Mosaic RV series is suitable for use in environments where gas and dust explosions are a risk. These modules are ATEX compliant and offer the same flexibility and functionality as the standard Mosaic safety PLCs. This allows safety systems to be easily extended to hazardous areas without compromising safety or reliability.

Safety PLC applications

Using ReeR's safety PLC Mosaic not only saves cabling in your cabinet, the number of relays can also be reduced by applying the Mosaic. The following application examples use the safety PLC Mosaic:

  • Securing robot with light curtains
  • Speed monitoring dangerous machine
  • Loading and unloading processing bench
  • Safety monitoring in ATEX zones with the Mosaic RV series
