Gripping without compressed air

Until recently, small grippers that are both fast and powerful were always pneumatic. After all, with compressed air, high pressure can be applied to another place almost without delay. But the extensive infrastructure required for pneumatics is no longer necessary today. Mechatronic gripping systems can now easily match the performance of their pneumatic counterparts thanks to brushless DC motors as small as 22 mm in diameter and an integrated motion controller.

Precisely fitting solution underground or in the warehouse

Microdrives are also used in sewer pipeline inspection robots. DC motors as small as 15 mm in diameter and a precious metal commutation system mounted on such inspection robots demonstrate how heavy-duty, shock-resistant and robust they are in everyday use. And these characteristics are also confirmed in logistics automation. In this sector, an increasing number of operations related to storing, retrieving and preparing items and packages for shipment are performed by intelligent robots. For example, a typical module of a lifting column and gripper placed on a logistics robot includes a  brushless DC servomotors with integrated motion controller and planetary gearbox. This ensures precise positioning during storage or retrieval of items - always in continuous operation with constant load changes.
