The IoT is changing the world at a rapid pace. One of the areas in which it is particularly booming is logistics. Those who succeed in optimizing their supply chains will strengthen their competitive position and noticeably reduce their costs. But the sensors needed for this are often located where energy cannot simply come out of the socket. Especially for this type of situation, VEGA is currently developing an entirely new series of measurement systems: autonomous level sensors based on powerful 80 GHz radar technology.
At the heart of IoT is data exchanged over a growing communications network. This data serves as the basis for making decisions for improvements. The large-scale integration of goods and IT infrastructure along the entire production chain offers very many hitherto untapped opportunities: from inventory management to transportation. But in a logistics context, power supply is not available everywhere in the right places to power the sensors that will provide the necessary data. VEGA's R&D team therefore set to work to develop autonomous radar sensors. The starting point was to use energy sparingly and to reduce the dimensions significantly, and the result is impressive.
The measurement performance, wireless data transmission and energy consumption of the new series of autonomous radar sensors have been optimized. Thanks to optimized measurement cycles, the batteries can now guarantee a ten-year service life. These wireless sensors are further economical, flexible, reliable and very quickly installed (plug-and-play). Therefore, they can be used reliably in the most diverse scenarios, wherever levels need to be measured. In this regard, it doesn't matter whether it is storage tanks with chemicals, containers with cleaning agents that need to be changed regularly or waste containers waiting to be picked up.

The autonomous VEGA sensors are ideal for mounting on IBC containers. They can be installed with a few operations and can remain permanently mounted on the container and transmit the relevant status even during transport.
The autonomous VEGA sensors are ideal for mounting on IBC containers. Thanks to radar technology, measurement is possible from the outside. There is therefore no need to open or modify the plastic container. This solution can be installed with just a few actions and can remain permanently mounted on the container and transmit the respective status, in companies at home or during transport. Even stacked, the autonomous VEGA sensors measure the current level and geographical position of each individual container several times a day - and transfer this data wirelessly to the cloud.
The connection is also modular: currently the technologies supported are NB-IoT and LoRa. In this respect, VEGA has opted for a multi-communication model: the sensor is suitable for multiple low-power wireless technologies and uses the variant that is currently available. Moreover, future technologies can be quickly integrated. The combination with the VEGA Inventory System provides additional possibilities: Based on the data obtained via the autonomous sensor, the visualization and logistics software determines optimal order volumes and future planning goals. In addition, the autonomous VEGA radar sensor has many more clever possibilities. Not least because the data also easily in other platforms and systems
can be integrated.
