Safe Operation - Radar security system - Inxpect

Inxpect develops and manufactures radar security systems for creating safe zones around hazardous machinery, automated robotic applications and manufacturing processes.

Inxpect's radar security system works based on radar technology with two configurable zones: a warning zone that serves as a pre-alarm and a danger zone that serves as an actual alarm.

Inxpect's radar system detects the movement of operators who are in the warning or danger zone. Where dust, water, smoke, vapor, shavings, moisture and flying parts normally create a tricky situation in creating a safe zone, this is not the case with Inxpect's radar security system. Other types of security systems recognize this as a hazardous situation and switch to the safe situation. By an operator, this is seen as a faulty interruption or false alarm. By using the Inxpect radar security system, which ignores small parts and recognizes people, this type of situation is prevented. Even without visibility, the system responds only to persons and ignores other objects and substances. 

Warning and danger zone

The radar system has two configurable zones, the warning zone and the danger zone. When entering the warning zone, it is possible to issue a warning signal or set the application to reduce speed (pre-alarm). When entering the danger zone, the system immediately switches to safe mode.

Control unit

A minimum of two products are used to set up an Inxpect radar security system: a control unit and a radar motion sensor. Up to six radar motion sensors can be connected to the control unit. When one of the six radar motion sensors detects an operator in the danger zone, the control unit switches to safe mode using the safe relay output. 

The control unit comes with software that allows the following functionalities to be configured:  

• The warning and danger zone (dimension, depth, size)
• Automatic or manual restart after an interruption
• Detection sensitivity

With the application of a radar protection sensor, combined with a control unit, the radar protection system is suitable for SIL2, safety category 3, Pl d applications in accordance with IEC 61508, EN/IEC62061.
