Machine safety is a complex task

Machine safety is a complex task

Machinery must be not only functional but also safe. Knowledge about the Machinery Directive and associated standards, risk assessments and specific processes is important, but can be quite complex. Expert knowledge is often required.

The requirements of the Machinery Directive and the standards assigned to it apply to mechanical and electrical structures. This results in specific procedures and processes, such as those of risk assessment and declaration of conformity. Further directives, such as low voltage and the EMC Directive, must also be taken into account. Outside the EU, other requirements regarding machine safety then apply, which must be taken into account when exported.

Use affects safety requirements

Depending on the application, other normative requirements may also arise. For example, explosion protection must be considered in certain environments, while additional hygiene requirements are required at other production sites.

Machine users must ensure that they can safely operate their machines at all times. Regulations exist for this as well. Moreover, other requirements apply to the integration of machines into complete systems, and to the modernization and conversion of available machines. In short, machine safety regularly leads to complex technical issues.

Experts

More and more companies are therefore seeking the support of qualified experts to cope with complex security issues. The Schmersal Group therefore not only offers a wide range of safety solutions, it has also established the tec.nicum division. In this independent service division, tec.nicum experts advise and support machine manufacturers and operators on everything involved in machine safety.
The tec.nicum specialists have years of experience in numerous projects with machine builders and in cooperation with associations and institutions. The team designs and implements projects and safety solutions in all phases of the life cycle, from development, manufacturing, sales, operation, modernization to decommissioning.

Four pillars

The overall offer of tec.nicum can be divided into four modular pillars, which can be combined and also support each other: tec.nicum academy (training courses and seminars), tec.nicum consulting (advisory services), tec.nicum engineering (planning and project planning) and tec.nicum integration (execution and assembly). In this way, safety is addressed in all its facets.
