Rigorous Technology, based in Vermont, USA, designs robots to solve production bottlenecks for industrial manufacturers. Rigorous focuses on projects that are more complex than traditional integration services and require advanced software controls, vision systems and data management. The robots they create are developed for specific applications and are designed to perform the most dangerous and repetitive tasks.
Rigorous discovered a common problem companies had with their robotic solutions. They found that companies did not have the resources and/or knowledge to troubleshoot problems with the robot or make updates during a process change. Over time, robotic solutions were taken offline and set aside because of outdated software or outdated programming.
Rigorous developed a way to create robotic systems that not only add value at the time of implementation, but also continue to work as customer operations change. Rigorous values long-term partnerships and can respond to new developments.
Rigorous's development team considers user-friendliness most important and designs intuitive interfaces. These allow operators to add and configure updates and diagnose problems quickly. Their software platform, the RGS library, is designed for usability with configuration without coding. This software has automatic error detection and provides clear diagnostics.
"We have found that customers are looking for automation systems that do not require an in-house team or permanent integration contract to add new configurations and troubleshoot failures. We offer applications based on fully tested software and manage all system components." - COLIN RIGGS, CEO, RIGOROUS TECHNOLOGY
Their solution provides a Human Machine Interface (HMI) that allows the operator to make process adjustments and control configuration. For the HMI, they needed a touchscreen panel PC. It would become part of a manufacturing process, where it had to withstand the extreme conditions of an industrial environment, such as dust and fluctuations in temperature. In this case, they chose a ruggedized panel PC from OnLogic.
"We are confident that OnLogic's computers are suitable for our customers because they are built for intensive use in an industrial environment. Our robots can run more than twenty hours a day in warehouses without climate control. These computers run the entire system - if the computer goes down, the system goes down. Thanks to OnLogic's long-standing focus on developing products that offer reliability and durability, we can take advantage of the capabilities these computers provide." - DIANE ABRUZZINI, COO, RIGOROUS TECHNOLOGY
One example of their robotic solutions is the Box Hopper. This solution feeds corrugated packaging into folding, gluing and converting machines. It offers configurations without coding for a wide range of formats whose results are already being felt. At one of their customers, the Box Hopper performs the grueling work previously done by a number of operators. By implementing the robot, an increase of 15% has been observed in their folding and gluing speed.
"We came for the technology and stayed for the team. Your account managers pull out all the stops for their customers, a clear example of OnLogic's corporate culture. The account manager took the time to really get to know our company. We are confident that he recommends not only product configurations from OnLogic, but also products from other companies in OnLogic's network. Because of that level of customer service, we will be working with OnLogic for years to come." - DIANE ABRUZZINI, COO RIGOROUS TECHNOLOGY
