One for all: quickly installed cradle for increased safety with cobots

New universal holder for cable tracks and protective hoses ensures safety at work with all collaborative robots (cobots)

When man and machine work side by side in production, safety at work is an important aspect. This is why igus has now developed a new holder for cable tracks and protective hoses on cobots. The Lean Robotics holder, which is manufactured through the injection molding process, has a uniform size, making it very economical. The holder can be installed in just a few seconds via Velcro tape. The new holder, which is available in three versions, enables universal safe routing for data and power cables.

Cobots remain a big trend in manufacturing and are being deployed not only by the big industrial players but also by small and medium-sized companies. The reason is, the automation of sub-processes ensures that companies can be competitive in the market. Collaborative robots work hand in hand with people, in their close proximity. Sensors and cameras as well as an energy supply system ensure the safety of the process. igus has developed the three-dimensional triflex R cable beads to ensure that cables and hoses can be routed reliably and compactly at cobots. For secure attachment of the cable bead or protective hose to the robot, users can now rely on igus' new Lean Robotics holders. The universal holders with Velcro are flexible in shape and adapt to any robot arm. A slim design with rounded corners increases workplace safety by reducing the risk of injury when contacting the robot.

Fast assembly and cost-effective thanks to plastic

The Lean Robotics holder attaches directly to the robot in two steps: simply apply the Velcro around the robot arm and press together. "Thanks to the Velcro attachment, the user has the ability to use the new clamps without the need for tools and on any robot of their choice. Thanks to the flexible plastic, they can be installed on another robot at any time," explains Matthias Meyer, head of the Robotics Industry Management department at igus. "Because we produce the holders via the injection molding process, they are very economical."

Free choice for secure cable routing

The new Lean Robotics holder will be available in three versions: the standard version has two continuously adjustable Velcro straps in a universal size and rubber padding on the inside so that the straps are secured around the arm without the risk of slipping. This option is also available with a mounting bracket and without strain relief. In a third option, the holder can also be equipped with a guard for added safety. The new holders are also suitable for use with the triflex R series TRC/TRE/TRL 30, 40 and 50 as well as all commercially available protective hoses of different diameters.
